The controller is a mash up of ideas from their old systems the s triggers and the Wii s motion sensing capabilities but once it has that tech it doesn t really know what to do with it. The Blu ray adds cost but adds very little to the gaming experience for the user. It s great as a media player but for those of us who love games first and foremost we have to look at it skeptically. The PS is a system with no core message and that is what keeps it from being elegant. Will it do great things in the future I hope so the possibility and potential are certainly there. For now it s power looking for a mission statement. Comment s Thread beginning with comment To read all comments associated with this story please click here . Check ICO and Shadow of the colossus if you don t understand what I mean. Well Xbox is powerful but its not even close to the raw power PS can produce. Xenos is probably a little bit more powerful than RSX. But I would say CELL is alot better than xenon. My . Nintendo had a huge fan base at one point but saw that slip away after blundering with the N . Yes B C will be very nice and is a good selling point for the PS . I highly doubt the average gamer could care less that you can install Linux on the PS . I dont think PSP functionality is going to make a big difference. Heck the PSP isnt even doing that well so it would make it rather hard to promote the PSP aspects of the PS when the PSP is being ignored as people flock to the DS. Better games Sure the tech demos looked great from a few years ago but then again I would expect pre rendered cut scenes to look great. To declare the PS as better in the games department at this point in time is just plain ignorent IMO. My pick on a winner Japan Wii North America Europe XBox with the Wii taking second place. Regardless of who wins I dont think its going to be like last gen where the PS was by far the market leader. This time around theres going to be much more competition between the consoles Reply Parent Bookmark Score RE PS will win by konrad . on Fri th Nov in reply to RE PS will win Member since Better games Sure the tech demos looked great from a few years ago but then again I would expect pre rendered cut scenes to look great. Better games has absolutely nothing to do with better graphics. As Nintendo Sony has a large support from Game studios in Japan. Plus that Sony s in house development studios are lot better innovation Story telling than Microsoft s. Heck the PSP isnt even doing that well so it would make it rather hard to promote the PSP aspects of the PS when the PSP is being ignored as people flock to the DS. You are aware of that PSP has a larger user base than Xbox I agree with Phil Harrison the console that will sell most units during this holiday season is a Playstation Playstaion . Horror games rarely betray such ambitions usually aiming just to scare you out of your wits. But when a game can make you feel like you re the one who s under attack it can be more effective than any other kind of terror. Condemned Bloodshot Sega for the Xbox PlayStation . Poor Ethan Thomas. His investigation of a serial killer in the original Condemned really messed with his head and he has sought refuge in the bottom of a liquor bottle. But his old colleagues need his help with another case so they prop him up and send him back out into a city where half the population has gone homicidally insane. Ethan is still so woozy that he needs a shot of booze before he can fire a gun. Fortunately he has plenty of other choices for weapons from his bare fists to your basic nail encrusted two by four to a toilet seat. The hand to hand combat is some of the best ever seen in a first person adventure and it s satisfyingly grisly. Some cleverly executed crime scene investigating sequences break up the mayhem and the story offers plenty of jolts. Not only does Ethan have to deal with hordes of murderous homeless people and track down a new serial killer he also has to confront his own alcoholism and discover his role in a supernatural conspiracy. Dark Sector D for the Xbox PlayStation . Early on in Dark Sector black ops agent Hayden Tenno is infected with a toxin that turns other men into vicious crazed killers. Fortunately for Hayden he s affected differently The substance gives him superpowers chiefly a three bladed glaive that he can sling from his right arm. The glaive may be the coolest new video game weapon in years. It works like a boomerang so it zips right back after you ve used it to slice off some monster s head. The glaive even develops new powers eventually letting you control its flight in slow motion. The downside is that the rest of Dark Sector doesn t live up to the groovy weapon. The environments are boring the enemies are repetitious and the plot is nonsensical. The long distance combat is a rush and I hope the developers will use it in a better game next time. Obscure The Aftermath Ignition for the Nintendo Wii . PlayStation . In the original Obscure from a group of teenagers discovered their classmates at Leafmore High had been turned into mutants. In The Aftermath the Leafmore survivors are now enrolled at Fallcreek University where more strange things are happening thanks to a trendy drug that all the cool kids are using. The Aftermath nails one aspect of the teen horror movie in that the characters are dimwits. And the vision of a frat party being overrun by drooling brain dead brutes comes pretty close to my own college experience. On the bad side the graphics are about years out of date diminishing the effectiveness of some of the game s gorier moments. And fighting the monsters can be frustrating because of sluggish controls and camera angles that often block your view of the action.
